The National Autistic Society is keen to involve more people with autism and Asperger syndrome in governance, as they are currently under-represented. This means we want to encourage people to explore whether they would like to serve on committees, boards and represent themselves and others with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).

We are working with a number of small groups UK-wide to help people gain and improve the skills they need to make successful contributions to meetings. This is what one person had to say:

I never thought that I'd be good enough for any of this. I am a patient representative for my local mental health team, but so far I have always felt I'm the 'token person with Asperger syndrome'. I look forward to learning more about how I can represent myself and others who also have Asperger syndrome.
